"I was volunteered, sir. Unanimous, it was. My family moved planets shortly after that. Immediately after, actually. That afternoon."
— Benson to Dashworth He's a wet flannel in shiny shoes. Drips quickly excuse themselves down the plughole to avoid hanging out with him. Ensign Benson was disowned by his entire family on the day they packed him off to the British Army, and he hasn't looked back since—which may be because he doesn't appear to have a spine.
If you were to tell Benson this, however, the little chap would nod and smile, and say, "Oh yes, sir, absolutely correct. I'm such a sap," and happily toddle off to fetch more tea, and perhaps a biscuit. Benson is always overjoyed to be helping people, in much the same way that a canary chirps excitedly because it's being taken on a lovely trip down a very long mine-shaft. He once dreamed of becoming a dazzling space captain and having amazing adventures across the cosmos, but has absolutely no get-go unless he's clutching a laundry list. He contents himself with shadowing the great adventurers of the age, hoping that perhaps some of the lustre will rub off on him if he keeps polishing hard enough. So far, it hasn't. |

Adventures
Formerly a tea boy at the British colony on Vorgak 3, Benson's life improved considerably once he began cleaning the latrines aboard the adventure craft Jolly Good. Finding thrills vicariously through the great Captain Dashworth, Benson followed his idol into deadly danger with a fresh pot of tea and a ready pair of trousers.
Christmas found Benson imbued with festive cheer, and the lad set out on a bout of goodening in the Sentum Cynosure, picking up a pair of odd socks he treasured ever since. Hoping to have Dashworth's crew sit down for a sizzling seasonal feast, Benson turned the Jolly Good's galley into a mess of wufflump dripping and suckling braised brump as he prepared his speciality Christmas dinner.
