Of the manifold alien races encountered by the British Empire, none were so alien as the Vorgak hordes of the Vorgak Hegemony. A baffling, genderless species of sickly green sporganisms, the Vorgak were best left out of sight and mind, which the bombardiers of the Royal Space Navy happily facilitated by driving the perfidious critters from their seeding fields and coral pod cocoons.
Word ultimately reached the Empire that some Vorgak had survived in deep space, and were squirrelled away in large reef colonies in the porous core of the outward worlds of their quadrene. This news was accepted as in keeping with the species' supposed origins within interstellar reef conglomerations. While the cosmos-at-large paid the vagabond species little heed, the Vorgak became the subject of several spooky folk tales among the hardy settlers on Vorgak 3—the idea that the insidious sporelings might come bursting out of the transformed farmland caught on among some of the youngsters at Patty's Knob, and as of the current age, the Vorgak are seen as literal bogeymen: distasteful, green, and best flung at a wall. |
