The loyal and patient souls of the Yeomen Warders are a common sight on the planets and Crown dependencies of the British Empire. Dressed in royal dress uniform, Warders guard sovereign territories ranging from colonies in outlying quadrenes to the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace itself. Originally formed to protect the royal residence, the Yeomen have seen their role expand as the Empire accumulates more Star Territories.
To the common citizen of London, the so-called Beefeaters are a friendly sight to be met with a wave and perhaps even a quick pictograph. However, the Warders are well-trained former members of the British Army, and many have seen service in the dangerous East Indies and the terrifying Gonjo Nebula. Armed with sharp pikes, the Warders can easily overpower foes in hand-to-hand combat, although recent years have seen their defensive positions bolstered with everything from blazer emplacements to back-up from deadly killer robots. While stoic and silent on duty, the Yeomen enjoy friendly camaraderie at the end of their shifts. More often than not a cluster of Beefeaters will be seen in one of the many pubs or gin shoppes in London town, sampling some of the capital's finest ales and possibly even sleeping off the resultant hangovers on the bank of the Thames. |
